Walter Villanueva

Walter Rafael Villanueva is a PhD Candidate in the Department of English and holds research positions at the Centre for Global Disability Studies and the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. His doctoral research focuses on Asian Canadian narratives of madness and, more particularly, how Asian Canadian writers use storytelling to counter or supplement formal psychiatric diagnosis. He is serving as a project coordinator for the "Mapping the Gaps" study, for which he is helping create a graduate student mental health survival guide. This survival guide disseminates the results of a qualitative study that addresses the gaps in graduate student mental health care at Ontario universities using a framework indebted to critical disability studies and Mad studies.
