Re:searching for 2SLGBTQA+ Health

On day two of Transgender Awareness Week, we are sharing a call-for-action for advocacy for transgender rights fromHuman Rights First Rwanda Association (HRFRA) based in Rwanda!

-

Below is an excerpt from their call-for-action article:

“Visibility is crucial in combatting these issues [challenges faced by transgender people in Rwanda], as it challenges harmful stereotypes and fosters greater understanding and acceptance. However, achieving visibility in a conservative context requires strategic, inclusive, and culturally sensitive approaches…

Human Rights First Rwanda Association has been a staunch advocate for LGBTQ+ rights in Rwanda for nearly two decades. During Transgender Awareness Week, the organization underscores the importance of recognizing transgender rights as fundamental human rights. HRFRA’s efforts during this week focus on advocacy, awareness-building, and community empowerment to foster an inclusive society where transgender individuals can thrive.

As Rwanda continues to work toward greater social equity, HRFRA remains committed to advocating for a society that respects and protects the rights of all, regardless of gender identity. This Transgender Awareness Week, HRFRA’s message is clear: Visibility matters, rights matter, and inclusion matters.”
